What to Expect

I’m really excited to work with you! Here’s a bit of what to expect
before, during and after our time together.

Before the Session:

We will be in touch regarding location. Feel free to share any images that especially inspire you and tell me what you appreciate about them. Let me know if you need an emphasis on formatting for certain uses (fine portrait art, professional website, Facebook cover photo, Instagram, offset for text, etc..) My default is simply a mix.

During the Session:

You be you! I will direct you on some posing. My main interest is that you feel comfortable, at ease, and that this is a safe and enjoyable experience for you. My hope is that we can have fun together and leave the session feeling good about our time playing in the light.

If it’s comfortable, I like to have a quiet pause at the start of our shoot just to give honor and blessing. I know that’s maybe kind of weird and I won’t press, but if that’s something you would appreciate, please let me know! Sometimes a moment for peace and breath is truly the secret sauce.

What to wear:

Light, neutral or medium tones almost always work best
. Blues almost always work. Think also golden shades, yellow, peach, cream, grey, burgundy, terra cotta, pink, lavender, or a mix of light and dark. A dark blazer and light shirt move toward the balance of: medium tones! (Hopefully, that last one is helpful and not confusing.)

To avoid, if possible: All black can flatten an image and make skin look gray. Green can make you blend in with our lush North Carolina backgrounds. (Wicked-witch color cast.) Small patterns can become pixelated on screens.

That said, the bottom line? Your comfort!! (Wear whatever you want! This is *your* shoot! I just wanted to include this because people always ask. :)

Props:

If you have any props (flowers or hats for example) bring those, as well as any changes of clothes if you have requested a larger package.

Payment:

Payment is due at time of shoot. A check made out to “Betsy Blake” or cash is fine. A CashApp or Venmo transfer can be available too. CashApp ($hellobetsyblake) or Venmo (@BetsyBlake).

After the Session:

I will back-up, curate and edit your images into high resolution portraits that will be made available via an online gallery and print shop. Turn-around time is generally 2 weeks. You will then have 7 days to download those images and use however you wish! I will send you a few advance images if I can, which may also be shared on social media.

I welcome any questions or inspirations.
